The 158th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 9th September 1931 over 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Sandwich, a bay colt by Sansovino out of Waffles, owned by the 6th Earl of Rosebery. A field of 10 runners contested the race which was worth £6,500. (Equivalent to £390,000 in 2017)
